Ben Davies: Tottenham Must Stick Together Through Tough Time
Ben Davies spoke of Tottenham’s current situation and knows that sticking together is the best thing they can do right now. Not pointing fingers and blaming someone.
Yesterday’s loss was Tottenham’s second in three matches, and only the third overall this season. But because Spurs have found themselves in a six-match winless streak it looks worse than it actually is.
It’s obvious that nothing is going right for Spurs. But blaming just one or two players, maybe a few, won’t help solve the problems that this team is currently facing.
While it’s easy to blame everybody because this is a total team effort. Instead, it’s best to just be their together during this rough period according to Ben Davies.
The Welsh international knows full well that the future looks a bit bleak, but the season is still long. There’s enough time to turn things around and look back at October as one of the turning points in getting Tottenham’s season back on track.
“Of course it was frustrating, it’s never nice when you come off the field after losing and we’ve only got ourselves to look at really,” Davies said after Spurs lost their second game at Wembley this season (via Spurs’s official website).
“When the goals aren’t coming we’re going to have to look at what we can do to create them but we can’t put the blame on anybody. It’s hard to point fingers at people, we’re not going to do that. As a team we have to stick together now and these are the times when true characters come out.”
“Every team goes through tough times and it’s up to us to stick together as players, fans, coaches – the lot – and work ourselves through it.”

This simple point of clubs having tough times can’t be overstated. Teams go through phases. Winless streaks. Unbeaten runs. It’s inevitable at this point. Teams are lucky, some are not.
All it takes is just one win for things to turn around. Or rather, a loss — a bad one — to get a team together to rally and fight back. Look no further than Spurs’ first match at Wembley on September 14th.
Tottenham returned to the Champions League for the first time in six seasons and lost 2-1. It was a huge wake up call that things won’t be easy. So what did Spurs end up doing? They responded by going on an eight-match unbeaten run that included five straight wins.
With the North London derby this Sunday, Spurs will be up for the challenge. And should they come away with a win at the Emirates Stadium (a difficult task), Ben Davies believes that will be the boost they need to carry them forward heading into the international break and beyond.
“If we win on Sunday it’ll give us all a big boost going into the international break.” Davies said.
“We’re a confident group, we’ve shown we can put good performances in against any team and Sunday is going to be no different. We have to be ready for what they’re [Arsenal] going to throw at us but on the other hand they’re not going to see it as an easy game either.”

The old cliché of “one game at a time” in sports has been used one too many times. But that saying clearly identify’s Spurs’ mentality right now.
Against Arsenal, coming away with a win could be the result that turns things around and returns Spurs to their winning ways once again.
