Tottenham's contract rebel Sergio Reguilón has been linked with an attractive move to La Liga, playing within his home city of Madrid.
As it stands, Tottenham Hotspur has six players with contracts expiring at the end of this season. One of those players, who admittedly isn't high on Tottenham's priority list, is Sergio Reguilón.
The Spanish full-back, who is trained by Real Madrid of all teams, is not a promising part of Tottenham's future. Especially under Ange Postecoglou, there is not a clear progress plan for Reguilón at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Therefore, if Sergio Reguilón wishes to return to his native country, an attractive La Liga side has emerged as his main candidate.
Tottenham contract rebel linked to attractive La Liga transfer
According Fichajes, La Liga side Getafe has emerged as the main contender to sign Sergio Reguilón on a free deal. The Madrid-based team could offer Sergio Reguilón an attractive route home, in a move which benefits both the club and the player.
However, Tottenham Hotspur would certainly not benefit. In this scenario, they would be losing a player for free, somebody who could have been sold for a fee in seasons gone by.
There is no denying Sergio Reguilón of his talent. To deny the former Real Madrid player of this would be an injustice. After all, there is rarely a bad player who makes an appearance for the best club in the world.
Fichajes has provided more insight into the situation. They claim that the full-back is targetted by Getafe due to his ability to fit into the "combative, pressing style" played by the Azulones.
Sergio Reguilón has played well whenever he's played in Spain. Having played for four different Spanish teams in his career, the full-back is held in high regard in his own country.
However, the same cannot be said for his time in England. He has represented three Premier League teams but his short loan spell at Brentford is what stands out above the rest.
Hence, Tottenham Hotspur would like to dispose of him. The best option for Tottenham would be to find a suitor in the January transfer window, however, it will be hard to convince any team to pay up given the potential to secure him for free by waiting.
Sergio Reguilón is a UEFA Europa League winner with Sevilla. This should definitely not be overlooked as it has to count for something. Tottenham will not offer him a new contract, so they may need to accept their losses and expect to lose him for free come the end of the season.
