It is no secret that Sergio Reguilon was free to leave the club this summer. The left-back had spent the last two seasons out on loan, firstly at Atletico Madrid in the 22/23 season, before six months each at Manchester United and Brentford last time out.

There had been interest in the former Spain international this window, including interest from La Liga and in Turkey, in the form of a reunion with his former Spurs manager Jose Mourinho at Fenerbahce.

However, nothing came of any potential interest within Europe's top five leagues, and despite the Turkish transfer window not shutting until the 18th of September, talk has gone very quiet - and a result, Spurs have included Reguilon in their Premier League squad.

Spurs' lack of left-back cover for Destiny Udogie has been well-documented. They had been interested in Patrick Dorgu from Lecce, but the Italian outfit wanted more than Spurs were willing to pay.

Ben Davies is an option for that position, but you feel that Ange sees him as more of an option to fill in at centre-back. He does not really have the mobility that Ange likes in his full-backs which are important for his intense style of play.

Reguilon is certainly a very fast player, but probably too much for his own good. He is a very high-flying full-back, whilst Ange prefers his full-backs to invert and help in the build-up. As a result, it comes as a bit of a surprise that he has been included in the Premier League squad, showing just how short the club are in that position.

The 27-year-old had been left out of Tottenham's Europa League squad, along with fellow full-back Djed Spence, although the latter's exclusion certainly came as much more of a surprise at first.

The Premier League squad consists of 25 players, as well as U21 players, including Lucas Bergvall, Wilson Odobert, and Archie Gray, in accordance with the Premier League's more lenient threshold. Premier League matchday squads consist of up to 23 players, so we will see how often, if at all, Reguilon is included in said matchday squads.
