Tottenham has scored 25 goals this season. Only three Premier League teams (Man United, Arsenal and Man City) have scored more than them. So, the problem for Tottenham is not scoring goals, it's been game management.
And there is only so much blame we can pin on Thomas Frank. Of course, the Danish manager has made some questionable starting XI decisions, such as not starting Xavi Simons enough, but he's had to make do without some of his most important players.
One of those players that Tottenham has been without all season is Dominic Solanke. The England striker's last appearance was against Man City, when Tottenham won 2-0.
Thomas Frank failed to play it cool about Solanke's Tottenham return
It would appear that Dominic Solanke is close to returning to action for Tottenham, news that would be welcomed by everybody at the club. He was clearly excited about his injury progress, dropping a picture of him playing on grass on his social media.
Playing on grass is often the first sign that a player is entering an advanced timeline to return from their injury.
When asked about Dominic Solanke, Thomas Frank said: “I guess it is good news when he posts that [on social media]. As I said with Dom because it is an injury that he picked up in July, it has dragged on for a while. When he is training fully, I will have news."
Look, it is Thomas Frank's job to downplay these things. He's not going to come out and promise he'll play in the next match.
Nevertheless, not even Frank could keep his composure. He is clearly excited by Solanke returning to action, any head coach would be.
As mentioned, Tottenham has been pretty solid on the offensive front, but any improvement that can be made is more than welcome.
Dominic Solanke improves the Tottenham starting XI tenfold. Whenever he plays, it's clear how much more fluid the Spurs attack is. He is the type of player to get the best out of his teammates, and he does so through acting as the anchor for passing channels in the final third. In other words, he's available to receive and offset passes.
It will be slightly more difficult for Dominic Solanke to make his way into the starting XI with Randal Kolo Muani in great form, but the more options that Frank has, the better.
Everybody is excited by Dominic Solanke's return to full training. Fingers crossed that happens sooner rather than later.
