Last week, George Abbott was the only Tottenham Hotspur loanee in action, as a result of the October international break. With no Championship football, the slot usually allotted for the second tier live on Sky Sports, was given to League Two – with the game that was being showed happening to be Notts County’s trip to Chesterfield, where Abbott registered his first senior assist in a 2-2 draw.

They were back in action today, as they hosted AFC Wimbledon, who are under the stewardship of former Spurs academy graduate Johnnie Jackson.

Like in the draw with Chesterfield, where his assist came from a cross down the right side, Abbott started this one as a right-wing back in Stuart Maynard’s 343 set up.

Notts would secure an important three points, their second in their last five League Two games, thanks to a strike midway through the second half, that proved to be enough for a 1-0 win. This result has left the Magpies fourth in the league two table, with 22 points from their 12 games so far, two points off Port Vale who currently sit top of the league.

As for Abbott, it was a fairly professional performance from the teenager. He was trusted to play the whole 90 minutes, recording; 59 touches, 32/38 passes, two accurate long balls, one shot off target, one shot blocked, 9/15 total duels won, four fouls drawn, two interceptions, and three tackles. He was booked for a tactical foul a minute into stoppage time at the end of the game.

Just like in the Championship, and League One, there is a full slate of League Two fixtures this coming midweek, and therefore another game around the corner for Abbott and Notts. They will make the long trip North to Cumbria to face Barrow, who currently sit three places and three points below Notts, making it a big game, despite the early nature of the season.

Last time they played in Cumbria, they pulled off a 2-0 win against Carlisle, so hopefully we will see more of the same here. The game is on Tuesday night, with a 19:45 BST kick off for that one.
