Spurs loan watch: Big win for Tottenham loanee's side
By Tom Vinall
Tuesday night signaled the first full midweek slate of fixtures in League Two so far this season, meaning that George Abbott and his Notts County side were in action, as they made the long trip to Cumbria to face Carlisle United in League Two.
They would go into this game on the back of some tough news, with star player and creative dangerman Jodi Jones confirming that he will be out for a while, having broken a bone in his leg following a challenge made on him in their defeat to Gillingham which forced him off the field late on.
Nevertheless, Notts County went into this showdown with Carlisle as favourites. Abbott started as a number ten in manager Stuart Maynard's 343 setup, the same role he played during the aforementioned game against Gillingham.

It was not the youngster's best game, unable to get too many touches of the ball playing in this more advanced position, a familiar tale to the Gillingham game. Regardless, the midfielder was once again trusted to play the 90 minutes.
The consistent game time has made this a productive loan, regardless of what else happens. There is becoming a theme with the more fruitful loans, and how they are lower down the pyramid. It is more beneficial than going to the Championship and not playing.
What made the fact Abbott once again played 90 minutes, is how the 19-year-old was in the book after 62 minutes for a foul. Despite his young age, he was still disciplined enough to see the game out and be trusted to do so by Maynard, despite making three changes.
This win now leaves Notts County second in the League Two table with 18 points from 9 games, just one point behind the league leaders Gillingham. Next up for the Magpies is a home clash with Port Vale in League Two on Saturday afternoon, kick-off at 15:00 BST.
