L'Equipe recently shared (h/t Sky Sports), that Lille isn't budging on their price for Jonathan David, the striker who’s been linked with Tottenham Hotspur this summer.

Even though David is in the last year of his contract, Lille isn’t ready to let him go for a cheap deal.

David’s contract situation initially suggested he could be a potential steal in the transfer market. With only one year left on his deal and no signs of an imminent renewal, many anticipated that Lille might lower their asking price to avoid losing him for free next summer.

Tottenham, among other clubs, had reportedly hoped to secure David for around £25 million, which seemed reasonable given the circumstances.

However, Lille’s stance is far from accommodating. According to L’Equipe, the French club is demanding €50 million (approximately £42.4 million) to let David leave.

This figure significantly exceeds the initial expectations and could influence the strategies of potential suitors. The high asking price indicates Lille's confidence in David’s value and their unwillingness to sell him off cheaply, even with his contract nearing its end.

Despite this hefty price tag, David’s talent has attracted interest from several Premier League teams, who are reportedly keeping a close eye on his situation.

Additionally, Atlético Madrid has emerged as another club monitoring the striker’s status. David’s impressive performances and potential make him a valuable asset in the transfer market, justifying Lille's demanding price to some extent.

Interestingly, the speculation linking David with a move to Tottenham has cooled somewhat recently. It appears that Spurs might be shifting their focus to alternative targets.

Homegrown players like Ivan Toney and Dominic Solanke are now reportedly on their radar. These players not only offer different qualities but also come with the added benefit of fulfilling homegrown player requirements, which could align better with Tottenham’s long-term strategic goals.

Lille’s big asking price for Jonathan David might make his move a bit tricky this summer, but it hasn’t completely put off the big clubs. We’ll see if anyone is willing to pay up or if Tottenham and the others start checking out other options.
