Tottenham’s Dele Alli: We Wanted to Do It for the Fans
Dele Alli’s brace gave Tottenham an impressive 2-0 win over London rivals Chelsea, and also equaled his tally from last season at 10 goals in only 20 matches.
To say that Tottenham wanted to exact revenge on Chelsea after last season’s disheartening draw that ended their Premier League title hopes, as well as a narrow loss back in November, is a massive understatement according to Dele Alli.
There was no need to say anything amongst the players and coaches in the changing room. Everyone knew what was at stake. Win, pick up three points, push further ahead in the top four and be a part of the conversation of a title challenge once again.
Oh, and of course, not to mention end Chelsea’s 13-match unbeaten run and make sure they don’t make history at White Hart Lane.

“We didn’t need to say anything beforehand,” Alli told Spurs’ official website if there was a pre-game speech of some sorts before they walked out onto the tunnel.
Instead what happened was the 20-year-old midfielder silencing any doubters that Spurs couldn’t challenge for the league title at the halfway point of the 2016-17 season by scoring a pair of headers to end the Blue’s historic run.
“I’ve worked on it a little and we do finishing all the time in training.” Dele Alli explained after scoring a brace and bringing his season tally to 10 goals.
“It’s something I want to add to my game and today it felt like I could only use my head, not my feet! I didn’t feel like I was in the game too much until I scored that first goal.”
“It was a great performance, we showed great fight and the fans were unbelievable.”
You could say that yesterday’s match was something that all of the players were looking forward too. As well as the fans.

A lot was on the line, but more than anything seeing Chelsea lose was what was at stake for 90 minutes. And that’s what happened.
“The game was massive for so many reasons – after last season, after earlier this season as well, we wanted to stop their run to be honest and we wanted to do it for the fans, everyone had the bit between their teeth, you could see that, Dele Alli said.
“The fans were singing from the start and we were so happy to get the win.”
“It was one of those nights at White Hart Lane, unforgettable, the fans were amazing and we were happy to get the win for them.”
Describing the goals that Alli scored, both headers looked nearly identical but that was because Christian Eriksen was on point with his delivery. The whole team played a masterful game and their 2-0 performance spoke volumes.
“They were two great crosses from Chris, I peeled away for both of them and it’s hard to miss when the crosses are that perfect,” Alli added.
