Hugo Lloris Reflects on Tottenham’s 2-0 Win Over Chelsea
Hugo Lloris was rarely called into action but rightfully deserved a clean sheet. Speaking to the club’s official website, the Tottenham goalkeeper spoke highly of Spurs’ win and Dele Alli.
Yesterday’s match against Chelsea was big for both London clubs and it was fitting that all eyes were glued to the game.
Not only was Chelsea looking to win and keep their winning streak alive, but they were on the verge of an unprecedented record-breaking 14-match unbeaten run in England’s top flight division.
Spurs meanwhile, also needed a victory to firmly position themselves in the top four and give them an opportunity to contend for the Premier League title.
What unfolded was what many Tottenham supporters believed, Chelsea was going to lose eventually. But it would have been at the hands of Spurs and no one else.
After picking up a win yesterday evening and ending Chelsea’s winning streak, Hugo Lloris spoke to Tottenham’s official website and offered his thoughts on the game as well as praising Dele Alli for his two-goal effort.

“It’s a great feeling, we had a great team performance tonight and now we just need to carry on.” Lloris said. “It’s only one game with three points but to beat the leaders of the league as we did tonight, it’s a great feeling.”
“There is nothing to say – we were much better in all the aspects of the game and we just need to carry on now.”
“We showed tonight that we’ve got more maturity and that’s good for our future. We showed more maturity than in the past and that’s the process that we’re in.”
“We used to repeat that we needed to go step-by-step and I think we are in a good way. We need to keep working hard and as I used to repeat, we need to keep the same mentality every day at the training ground and carry on because we have the talent.”
“When we play at this level all together, it will be difficult to beat us.”
If Spurs’ 2-0 win over Manchester City at home was one of the main highlights this season for Tottenham, how about beating Chelsea by the same scoreline and also at White Hart Lane? Would this be considered a statement win that could vault Spurs to the top?
“I don’t know. The most important thing is to feel that at home, for the opponent it’s difficult to get something, especially against the top teams.” Hugo Lloris explained.
“We’ve beaten Manchester City, now we’ve beaten Chelsea and in both games I think we did well but the season is still young, we need to keep our feet on the floor and think about our recovery now.”

Being hardly challenged by Chelsea’s trio of Diego Costa, Eden Hazard and Pedro, the French goalkeeper didn’t have much to do.
And with Chelsea’s defense unable to contain Danny Rose, Kyle Walker and Christian Eriksen, Tottenham’s offense would get on the scoreboard at the stroke of half-time courtesy of Dele Alli.
“I’m very pleased with Dele,” Lloris said. “That kind of chance that he had tonight, he got a few at the beginning of the season and he missed the target but in the last few games with his headers, he’s been fantastic.”
With seven goals in his last four Premier League appearances, three straight games with a brace scored, the 20-year-old midfielder is currently among Tottenham’s in-form players.
“I think he’s improving every day, he’s a huge talent and it’s the same – if he keeps working hard and if he’s still got the right mentality he’s going to be a big player.” Hugo Lloris added.
“It’s good because he knows the effort that he has to produce in every game and every training session and he’s very important in the team. If you look at all the players, they know how important the team is and we all know that the team is the star.”
“As long as we keep this mentality there is no problem – we will get better and better and stronger.”

Lloris continued talking about what makes Alli so dangerous: “He is an offensive player. The manager gives him a bit of freedom offensively and he is the kind of player who will read the game, feel the game and is always at the best position in front to receive the ball. Tonight [yesterday], he proved that again.”
