Mauricio Pochettino expressed his feelings following Hugo Lloris and Michel Vorm’s contract extensions to remain a part of Tottenham’s squad.

After Hugo Lloris and Michel Vorm signed new deals to extend their stay with Tottenham the past two days, both players have become the 15th and 16th players, respectively, to receive a contract extension this year alone.

It’s quite a long list of players and when you include Mauricio Pochettino (plus his staff), that’s a total of 20 people who will stay with Spurs for the foreseeable future.

Down below is a roundup of every single player who re-signed:

Speaking to Spurs’ official website, Mauricio Pochettino talked about how pleased he is that Lloris and Vorm are committing their futures with the north London club. And to an extension, everyone else listed above who has decided to stick around for multiple years.

“I am very pleased that Hugo and Michel are showing their commitment with the club and I think that speaks very well about us and our project,” Pochettino said.

“To hear them makes us very proud about our project, our team, our club and our fans. We are very happy and we hope that not only them but all the players want to be involved for a long time with us.”

With a majority of Spurs’ players being young and talented, it was imperative to tie down two of the oldest members on this team in Hugo Lloris (29) and Michel Vorm (33). Their contributions on the pitch are highly valuable, but off of it, it’s just as important when they can help teach everyone.

It is something that Pochettino believes can keep this side level-headed, steady and focused. To keep up with the challenges of competing for silverware and consistently securing Champions League on a yearly basis.

“Hugo is a top man, very professional and he’s a natural leader,” Mauricio Pochettino added. “All the players and all the people respect him. He provides very positive leadership and that is a very good thing for us and for the club.”

“Michel is the same – he’s a top man, a top keeper, he’s always very positive and he’s very professional too.”

“The connection is fantastic between them and Pau López, they are working very hard with Toni Jiménez our goalkeeping coach and I think that’s fantastic. It’s for that reason we are delighted and very pleased that they’ve shown their commitment with the club.”

With December nearing its conclusion there aren’t many players left on Mauricio Pochettino’s squad who could receive a contract extension. The two biggest names left are Toby Alderweireld and Érik Lamela.

Besides those two, Ben Davies and Kieran Trippier could be next in line. After that? Perhaps some other academy players not named Tom Glover, Kyle Walker-Peters or Shayon Harrison who all signed a year ago on this day.

All in all, Tottenham have signed a majority of their first team starters on multi-year deals, plus highly rated backup players, to form a very talented group. Any signings during the transfer windows will be welcome additions to continue adding to the talent pool already on this squad.
