Kyle Walker is the seventh Tottenham player to extend his contract and remain with Spurs for the foreseeable future.

At 196 appearances and four goals in all competitions since joining Tottenham from Sheffield United, Kyle Walker is one of Spurs’ longest-serving players.

Loan spells to Queens Park Rangers and Aston Villa saw the right-back establish himself as a starter upon his return following a breakout campaign at the conclusion of the 2011-12 Premier League season. Wherein, he would win the PFA Young Player of the Year award.

Serious injuries in February 2014 and April 2015 almost put his future in doubt, but a return to form last term has seen the defender raise his game to another level for both club and country.

Capped 20 times with the England national team, and a starter in the European Championship, Walker has continued to impress from the summer until now. It’s no surprise that he joins six other Spurs players before him with a long-term deal in the month of September.

Kyle Walker’s new contract sees him commit his future with Spurs until 2021.

With Spurs’ full-backs, central and attacking midfielders taken care of — along with Harry Kane’s extension earlier this year — Érik Lamela, Jan Vertonghen and Hugo Lloris are the remaining players who are still seeking a new deal.

Mauricio Pochettino and Daniel Levy are quickly retaining their core players who have helped build Tottenham’s foundation since the Argentine manager arrived two years ago.

Once everything is all said and done, Spurs will have secured a majority of their starting XI.

True to form, Pochettino has shown that he prefers to build from within while adding only a couple of pieces from the transfer market to help augment what he already has.

The future will be comprised of mostly homegrown players that have come through Spurs’ academy and for Kyle Walker, he’s happy to extend his stay for five more years.

“I want to say a big thank you to the chairman and the manager for putting their faith in me,” Walker said (via Spurs’ official site).

“It’s been a long stay here but a very enjoyable one, I’m fully enjoying it.”

“When I first came here, in my head, the plan was to stay for the long run, it wasn’t a stepping stone to get me somewhere else or to go from one [club] to another, I signed here to stay here.”

“This is my second home now and I’m happy to commit my future to Tottenham Hotspur.”

“I love the Club, it’s welcomed me with open arms and I have to say thanks to the fans as well, they’ve been fantastic to me.”

“Now we as players have to drive this Club to where we should be and where we know we can be.”

With Kyle Walker being the latest player to sign a long-term deal, Spurs now need to win some silverware after keeping their core group together for at least five years.

As one of the veterans on this team, Walker understands that Tottenham’s future is bright but trophies must be won to make Spurs’ commitment in their own players more worthwhile.

“For work ethic, desire, hunger and togetherness it’s definitely the most exciting team I’ve been involved in,” Walker added. “There is an exciting future for Tottenham Hotspur.”

“We’ve a lot of younger players here, I’m one of the older heads now!”

“I’m fully enjoying it, I’ve signed a new five-year deal and I’m fully committed to the squad, the Club and I want to see us go to where we should be and win medals along the way.”
