A point on the road is a good point according to Tottenham’s captain and goalkeeper Hugo Lloris.

To come away with a draw at Leverkusen, Germany, Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris sees it as a “good point” after a difficult game as the match wore on.

Spurs had chances to pull ahead in the first half but a resurgent second half from Bayer made things dicey when Roger Schmidt’s side applied relentless pressure with every possession.

“It was a very tough game, just as we expected,” Lloris said on Spurs’ official website. “At the end of the game we can be pleased with the point. We missed some good chances in the first half and at this level if you don’t score, it’s difficult to win games.”

“It’s true that the game turned a bit to the Leverkusen side in the second half. We struggled a lot, we suffered a lot but we stuck together and at the end it’s a good point.”

“We knew straight away after the draw that the confrontation with Leverkusen would be decisive so we can be pleased with a point. We need to learn from this game because we need to improve our football and increase our level all together to try to do better at Wembley.”

The return leg will take place on November 2nd, exactly two weeks away which gives both teams enough time to improve their forms.

More importantly, Mauricio Pochettino should have enough data to formulate a plan to counter high-press teams who have done well against Tottenham since last October beginning with Jürgen Klopp’s Liverpool team and Thomas Tuchel’s Borussia Dortmund side.

If Roger Schmidt and his Bayer team come into Wembley Stadium and are able to continue the pressure they had from yesterday’s second half, it’s unlikely that Spurs will be lucky to come away with brilliant saves from Hugo Lloris once again to maintain a clean sheet.

Even the Frenchman knew that he had his work cut out for him when stopping all six shots that were on target. None closer than Javier Hernandez’ attempt that had three-fourths of the ball cross the goal line.

“He should have scored, that’s the truth!” Hugo Lloris added. “But when you are a goalkeeper you always need to believe.”

“It’s true the goal is very big, I’m not so tall, so I need to move quickly and I know that sometimes a striker can miss his kick and that was the case.”

“I was in a good position to react and after that, you need luck, you need everything…sometimes you touch the ball but it still goes in. This time, it stayed in my hands and that’s good for me, for sure, but also good for the team because it helped us stay in the game.”

A touch of skill and luck played a part in Hugo Lloris’ Man of the Match performance to keep Spurs in the game. Unluckily though, with rain and a wet pitch playing a part, Tottenham couldn’t score on three chances from Dele Alli’s header, to Vincent Janssen’s strike hitting the crossbar and finally Érik Lamela’s rebounded half-volley.

Finishing remains a problem for Pochettino’s squad and it has been something that will undoubtedly keep Spurs from being a very dominant team who can put opponents away. All of the chances Tottenham have created has mostly gone to waste with not enough goals being scored this season.
