Tottenham fans will be enjoying this summer window already, with their club finally taking a bold approach to the summer transfer window. Roberto De Zerbi is being granted a squad overhaul, and we are likely to see the busiest Spurs window since the sale of Gareth Bale and the subsequent splurge.
Tottenham have already signed four new players, including Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi, Martin Dubravka and Jan Paul van Hecke, and the signings are likely to continue.
A midfielder is expected to be next in, and Spurs also need a new striker before likely touching up the squad elsewhere.
Gray should be safe as youngsters pay the price for recruitment
The one concerning factor of this Tottenham rebuild is that they appear to be abandoning their hopes of growing a squad from the roots up. De Zerbi wants to win now, as ever, and the club is going along with that plan.
But it means some of the younger players are not going to get regular opportunities, and we are already seeing a likely departure for Lucas Bergvall beginning to play out.
Bergvall is a huge talent, and he is one who could go on to make Tottenham regret his exit. But one player does look to be untouchable, and it will be a giant relief for Spurs fans.
Recent reports suggest Archie Gray will be kept regardless of interest, with Leeds United tipped to try to re-sign him, and that should be celebrated by Spurs fans.
Some already feel uncomfortable about abandoning the more youth-based strategy, and of all the players who are likely to go on to be stars, Gray is at the top of the list.
The 20-year-old has coped playing in a number of positions at a young age, and despite his youth and smaller stature, he is a player who rarely looks out of place wherever you put him.
Gray is well ahead of schedule, and he is likely to continue developing at a rapid pace, as long as he continues to get opportunities. But that's the one caveat here. A Gray stay should be conditional on him playing regularly, or Spurs will risk harming his development next season.
Ultimately, though, he is likely too good a player not to play, especially with his ability to play in various positions, which is always a vehicle to more minutes on the pitch.
Speaking during his short spell in charge, former Spurs boss Igor Tudor said of the youngster: "He's a guy, you know the positions he plays everywhere, so probably this position in the middle is, I believe, the best one for him.
“But he's playing continually in the right way, in a good way. It's a mix of quality, physically and mentally, to always make the right choices and be humble and have the legs to do so.
“He needs to continue this. He’s still young, so every day he needs a new confirmation [of what he can do].”
