Tottenham Hotspur manager Roberto De Zerbi is aggressively recruiting Sandro Tonali as his next blockbuster transfer for Spurs, as he already successfully reunited with Brighton center back Jan Paul van Hecke and has now moved on to midfield targets. There are two, in particular, that De Zerbi wants to bring in together to revamp the base of the midfield, as along wtih Tonali, Spurs are pushing hard for West Ham United rival Mateus Fernandes after his big breakout season.

Although Tonali has interest from Manchester City, the Citizens already spent more than 100 million pounds to sign Elliot Anderson and are fighting hard with PSG and others to nab 18 year old World Cup breakout Ayyoub Bouaddi. So Tonali is not really a priority for them, and rivals Arsenal have also gone quiet on the Tonali track.

There is a lot of optimism that Tottenham will be the ones to land Tonali with how hard De Zerbi is going after him, and all Spurs really need to do at this point is pay Newcastle United the money they want for the former Scudetto winner at AC Milan.

Roberto De Zerbi already won Sandro Tonali over

Now, top Italian transfer insider Gianluca Di Marzio is adding to the optimism, and he said on his Caffe Di Marzio podcast that Sandro Tonali intends to honor his word to Roberto De Zerbi and has already given a verbal "yes" to the Lilywhites.

Di Marzio said, "Sandro Tonali is determined to honour his word to Roberto De Zerbi that he will sign for Tottenham. He has said 'yes' to the Spurs head coach."

Squaring things up with Tonali seems to already be done, but that was always the easy part. De Zerbi has a lot of charisma, and both the connection to Brescia and the tactical ideas that suit the Italian midfielder were always going to tempt Tonali.

Now the hard part is getting the Magpies to sanction the deal. They appear to be more open to selling Tonali than Brazilian Bruno Guimaraes, whom Arsenal have actually been focusing on instead, but there are figures as high as 100 million pounds being tossed around for the 26 year old when many Spurs fans thought the issue was squabbling between Spurs paying 75 million pounds and Newcastle wanting 85 million pounds.

Tonali is very expensive, but like Jan Paul van Hecke, he is the guy De Zerbi really wants and a talent De Zerbi sees as very crucial who is also all in on Spurs. Gianluca Di Marzio says Tonali has already made his choice, and now Spurs just need to find a way to seal this deal.
