Manor Solomon has no future at Tottenham Hotspur, and it is fair to wonder if he ever really did. Spurs were already desperate to sell Solomon last summer but found no real takers, instead loaning him off to La Liga giants, where he was so below their standard that he had to be loaned off again to Fiorentina in the winter.
Fabio Paratici hasn't exactly been falling over himself to sign Solomon, but the Viola have recently rejoined the race to sign the left winger permanently. While that is a potential gift from Paratici, it is not 100 percent good news, because the other two teams linked to Solomon, Championship sides West Ham United and Hull City, are dropping off the race.
The crux of the issue continues to be cost. Solomon has no interest from the Premier League or almost any other top level league in European football, save for Paratici's pity interest in the Israeli international. And because only Championship sides are interested in Solomon, Spurs wanting 20 million pounds for a player without future value, such as the Will Lankshear and Ashley Phillips sales to Middlesborough, is rather ridiculous.
Tottenham can't sit on a player they don't want
West Ham, for example, are only willing to pay five million pounds, and they do not want to give hefty bonuses to Tottenham Hotspur in the case of promotion, because, well, Manor Solomon probably won't be the reason why they are promoted and, like Leeds United, would not be someone West Ham are expected to keep after getting back to the Premier League anyway. After all, there is a huge drop off between Solomon and the player West Ham wanted to build around on the left wing and were forced to sell due to their relegation, Dutchman Crysencio Summerville (now of Al HIlal),
Tottenham Hotspur have been struggling to offload Solomon, and they are running into the same problem that they did last season. They are getting too greedy. Solomon is a Championship or very low level Serie A player, and those players only garner a few million in transfer fee. He is also 27, won't go for a big fee in the future, and therefore is not an investment to the buying club. Plus, most importantly, Tottenham have no leverage, because Solomon and his agent have made stinks multiple times this summer about how they want out - and Tottenham playing him in a few mildly impressive preseason games isn't going to change anything about that.
If Tottenham don't want to be left holding the bag or in a carousel of loans, they have to cut their losses and sell Solomon. And as Real Madrid will tell you, the best big club mentality is that your roster spot is worth millions, too, and clearing one for a new player by getting rid of someone with no value to your club is a big deal.
