Dejan Kulusevski has not been able to play a single minute for Tottenham Hotspur since the end of the 2024/25 season when he sustained a knee injury that was infamously initially termed a knock. It then turned into an injury that was supposed to take him out for a couple of months, and then when he was mysteriously not back yet six months later with not a peep from the club, Spurs fans then started to worry about a career threatening injury.

And things were pretty dire for Kulusevski for months, but over the summer, he slowly started to get back to running the grass and playing with the ball. Now, Kulu is training with his Tottenham teammates, and there is real optimism that not long after the current international break ends in October, Kulusevski will finally be able to take the field nearly 18 months after the initial injury.

So far, all the injury updates regarding the Swedish international have been positive, as both Tottenham Hotspur manager Roberto De Zerbi and experienced Premier League manager Graham Potter of the Swedish national team are on the same page in taking things as slowly as possible with Kulusevski after such a brutal injury.

Yasin Ayari offered a Dejan Kulusevski injury update

In the latest positive update, Kulusevski's standout Swedish teammate Yasin Ayari of Brighton fame said that Kulu is working his way back and gave a lot of great words of strength for the Spurs star in terms of the way he is fighting back and the character he has shown.

Ayari said of Kulusevski, via Hotspur Lane, “He's started training and is making progress. I'm happy for him, that he can come back and do what he loves. I just hope that things will go well when he's 100 percent. He's always been in shape and taken care of his body. It's incredible how strong he's been on this journey. Not many people can wake up and keep fighting after going through this much. He keeps fighting and is happy at the same time. When it comes down to it, it's not normal. He's very strong mentally. I learn a lot from that.”

Tottenham fans have definitely been inspired by Kulusevski putting in serious work to get back into the game, and nobody is going to forget the feeling of fear they had at the idea that Kulu could potentially have suffered a career ending injury. His mental strength and spirit are clear to see, and Tottenham fans will love this update from Ayari that he is making progress in training - and like the Brighton star, Spurs fans will be hoping for him to be back at full strength.
