Unlike last season, Tottenham Hotspur supporters have been hearing a lot of updates about Dejan Kulusevski's injuruy status this season, as manager Roberto De Zerbi has been keeping the fan base up to date on every single happening.
For example, the manager recently divulged that Kulu had suffered a small problem, clarifying that the issue is really minor, not a real setback, and will only cost him a very minor period of time away from training. In the end, it is an inconsequential update as far as Kulusevski's recovery timeline goes, and these updates on Kulu's fuutre, his training status, and these small bumps in the road are ultimately not that important to the overall picture of his return.
But they are important for De Zerbi rebuilding trust with Tottenham fans. Spurs supporters have seen so many players injured over the past couple of seasons, and while that blame was pinned on Ange Postecoglou, in large part, because of how demanding his tactics were, it's not like things got better under Thomas Frank.
Tottenham used to have a real transparency issue
Plus, there was a clear lack of transparency when it came to injury updates and even managing players and their fitness. One of the most egregious examples of this lack of transparency came with the Dejan Kulusevski case itself. His injury was initially termed a knock at the end of the 2024/25 season, then a couple of months, and then when Tottenham Hotspur fans did not hear a single update from the club about the Swedish international, they connected the dots and figured something serious had happened. It was only the Swedish national team giving updates - not Thomas Frank or the club - that led Spurs fans to learn at least a little bit about what was happening.
Now, Roberto De Zerbi is pretty much keeping Tottenham supporters abreast of everything, and as much as the Italian manager was deemed a dangerous enigma upon his arrival to N17 last spring, he has been more open with the fans than his predecessors.
So as Tottenham supporters continue to get the latest news on Kulusevski's injury and his return from what was a career threatening knee ailment, they have to remember to appreciate the fact that De Zerbi is both handling Kulu and the recoveries of other injured players delicately and also ensuring that the fans know exactly what is going on with their beloved stars these days.
