Tottenham Hotspur star right winger Dejan Kulusevski is finally recovering from a devastating knee injury he suffered at the end of the 2024/25 season that has cost him more than a year of action since. Only recently has the Swedish international, who obviously missed the 2026 World Cup, begun to shoot and dribble with the ball, and without any updates for months from the club or anyone else, Spurs fans were, at one point, worried he would never play again.
It is wild looking back at the news around the injury occurring, because it was initially termed as a short term tweak, then an injury that he would recover from by the 2025/26 season, and then the updates went completely silent.
Roberto De Zerbi spoke a little bit about Kulu's injury status at a press conference this week, via Alasdair Gold of Football.London, “Kulusevski fit and right, he's one of the best players we have in the squad. I wouldn't like to put too much pressure on him to accelerate the process of rehab but I hope he can be available as early as possible."

Dejan Kulusevski has recently been spotted running on the grass with another Tottenham Hotspur star right winger recovering from a, less serious, injury in Mohammed Kudus. But while Kulu appears to be making progress, it's honestly entirely unclear what Tottenham can expect from him this season after such a long time out and such a bad injury that had fans worried about his appearance just walking around in front of cameras with the Swedish national team a few months ago.
Therefore, the continued stance from Roberto De Zerbi and Spurs is the understandable and right one, and no matter how much Tottenham fans miss Kulu and believe he can help the team in a rotational role as a right winger and midfielder, it is far more important for Spurs to keep him healthy.
De Zerbi does not want to put pressure or "accelerate" the healing process, knowing that after such a bad knee injury, that is just an aggravation waiting to happen. Kulusevski is important to Tottenham as a person, and his leadership might be a bigger deal to Spurs than even his quality - and he was one of the best attackers in the Premier League before going down. So Spurs supporters will be extra appreciative of the new manager continuing to take Kulu's recovery seriously.
