Tottenham Hotspur fans have not seen Mohammed Kudus out there on the pitch since January when he suffered a quadriceps injury. He was supposed to make his return to the Tottenham lineup in April but suffered an aggravation just when he was on the cusp of his return to help Spurs in the Premier League relegation battle.
Kudus was missed badly when he got injured. It is no coincidence that Spurs worst performances and their downward slide to relegation occurred after Kudus's injury to start 2026, as he was the one thing keeping them afloat as an attack and the only player truly creating danger and taking people on game after game.
No player has Tottenham fans more excited to see him next season than Kudus, who never actually got the chance to play with Roberto De Zerbi. But that will all change once he is over this soft tissue injury that has cost him several months.
Tottenham need a healthy Mohammed Kudus
Though Kudus has been absent from the team training sessions and the friendly match squads this summer, De Zerbi has revealed that Kudus is very close to returning. He told reporters, via Hotspur Lane, “Kudus is very close, I think. When we come back to London, he will be available to start to work with us. It is a great thing for us. Because Kudus is another important player.”
Mohammed Kudus is crucial for Tottenham Hotspur, no doubt, and De Zerbi saying that much is quite obvious. So it is great news for Tottenham fans to hear that he is "very close" and when they return from the tour in Auckland to North London, Kudus will be 100 percent ready.
It is also great to see that De Zerbi and Tottenham are not rushing Kudus or the other injured players. Tours can be grueling with all the travel, and the extra rest is a huge help. Kudus resting also gives players who are less proven and not as able to get minutes during the season, and those reps really do help the young guns out.
Tottenham's fortunes in 2026/27 do not rest solely on Kudus, but he is the best attacking player right now without any new additions yet. And even when Spurs do sign new stars to join the fray, Kudus will remain an indispensible part of the team and was statistically the best dribbler in the Premier League last season before his injury.
