Tottenham Hotspur star right winger Dejan Kulusevski has not been able to play since the end of the 2024/25 Premier League season with a knee injury that was infamously referred to as just being a knock and then ended up being a potentially career threatening injury.
But Kulu and Spurs fans have lived past the worst of the injury and the worst of the uncertainy when Tottenham supporters were getting zero updates on their beloved attacking playmaker, even wondering if they would ever see him on the field again.
Well, Kulusevski is back on the field again and consistently practicing for Spurs each week, and his return to the team may be around the corner. Although there has been speculation that his first minutes could be with the Swedish national team at the next international break in the vcoming weeks, which is concerning since Spurs want to take things as slowly as possible with Kulu, it appears that, thankfully, this won't be the case.
Sweden will not rush Dejan Kulusevski back either
Sweden national team manager Graham Potter - who used to coach Brighton, Chelsea, and West Ham United in the Premier League - formally admitted that while Kulusevski is close, he does not intend to rush the player back and will give deference to Tottenham Hotspur since he is their player first and foremost.
Potter stated, via Arabic Spurs, "He is progressing step by step. First, he needs to return to playing with Tottenham, and they are the ones who have the final say. They see him every day, and they are the most capable of making the decision. When he is not playing with his club, it is difficult for us to call him up even if we want to. He is a top-class player, and we respect his situation. He is not far off, but when you have been absent for a long period, it is important to be cautious in the final stage of rehabilitation."
Tottenham needed to hear exactly that from Dejan Kulusevski's national team coach. He is going to play for Tottenham first, and then Sweden are going to utilize him. Sweden are not going to put Kulusevski in harm's way first or jeopardize their relationship with Tottenham, especially when their biggest gem of the future, Lucas Bergvall, is literally one of their own. Graham Potter is on the same page of being fully cautious as Roberto De Zerbi, and that is everything Spurs could ask for.
