Tottenham Hotspur signed Mohammed Kudus from West Ham United last summer. This was the first player to join Spurs from the Hammers since Scott Parker made the move back in 2011.
Whilst Tottenham's biggest rivals are Arsenal, the Hammers' rivalry with Spurs has grown recently. This is partly due to West Ham not playing their greatest foe, Millwall, since 2012. Therefore, not many players bridge the divide between West Ham and Spurs.
Now, another player is being linked with making the move. The Daily Mail has reported that "Tottenham are among the clubs to have considered a move for West Ham’s Crysencio Summerville."
Tottenham fans will be laughing at the prospect of taking another player from the Hammers
Kudus began his Tottenham career well, but has faded since. The right-winger has still managed two goals with six assists in 19 games in the Premier League this season. However, it is the left flank that Spurs need strengthening.
Since the departure of Son Heung-min, Tottenham have lacked an out-and-out left-winger. Spurs fans will know all about Summerville as he has just scored for West Ham against them in a surprise 2-1 win.
Tottenham had been on a bad run of form since the new year, but West Ham is fighting relegation. The Hammers are in the relegation places, and there is real concern that they will be in the Championship next season. Whilst Summerville would be an excellent capture for Spurs, it would spark outrage for Hammers supporters.
It appears that Spurs will be sticking with the under-fire Thomas Frank for now. The 2-0 win over Borussia Dortmund this week has bought him time in the Tottenham dugout. They need to back him if he is to turn around Spurs' season, as this would be by signing proven Premier League players.
Spurs are 14th in the Premier League, which is disappointing. However, they are now fifth in the Champions League. The campaign is becoming similar to the last one under Ange Postecoglou, with success in Europe eclipsing domestic action.
Summerville is only 24, but has extensive experience in English soccer, having played for Leeds United before joining West Ham. He was with the Dutch sides Feyenoord, Dordrecht, and ADO Den Haag before arriving at Elland Road.
The winger is not yet a Netherlands international, but has represented his country from Under-16 level up to the Under-21s. If he is to join Spurs, it would no doubt boost his chances of representing the Netherlands at the senior level.
