Tottenham already know they are going to have to make big chances this summer, and one player is already said to have had a move sanctioned.
Spurs have had a disastrous campaign that has seen two managers sacked, and Roberto De Zerbi has been tasked with keeping them in the Premier League. Tottenham's chances are staying in the top flight are firmly in the balance, but whether they manage it or not, players are going to be leaving this summer, and Guglielmo Vicario could lead the way.
Guglielmo Vicario has already had a move sanctioned
Transfer links involving Vicario are nothing new. The goalkeeper has been heavily linked with a return to Italy for months, and there were even suggestions he might be lured away back in January.
Vicario wound up sticking around, but it's been an awful season for Spurs, and he is one of the players who is likely to want to leave for a bigger opportunity after back-to-back bottom-half finishes with Tottenham.
Just how highly Vicario is rated will vary by person, but there is no doubting that he is at least Champions League quality, and such players do not stick around at bottom-half clubs not competing in Europe.
Tottenham know that, and according to a report from TeamTalk, Spurs decided back in January that they would allow Vicario to leave this summer. The decision was perhaps taken as part of a compromise to get the Italian to stay until the end of the season.
It's claimed Inter Milan are now closing in on a deal ahead of the summer as they look to replace Yann Sommer. Juventus are also said to have expressed interest, but Vicario has reportedly made it clear he prefers a move to San Siro.
Vicario is under contract until 2028, so Tottenham may be able to get a solid fee, likely between £20million and £25million, but relegation could see that fee dashed, given there will be pressure for the club to sell due to financial reasons.
As for what Spurs will do next, Antonin Kinsky is said to become the number one goalkeeper if relegation is confirmed, while a new top-level goalkeeper is expected to be on the shortlist if Roberto De Zerbi manages to keep them in the Premier League.
Vicario has been out of late with a hernia issue that required a small procedure, but it's likely be will return within the next couple of weeks to help keep the club in the top flight as a potential final act.
