Indecision over Ange Postecoglou's future cost Tottenham a couple of weeks in the summer transfer window, but the club can now look towards building for 2025/26 and beyond after hiring Thomas Frank.

The Dane, who spent nine years at Brentford and worked wonders as their head coach, has joined the club on a three-year deal.

Frank will be joined by several members of his backroom staff from the west London club, and will team up with a familiar face in Johan Lange on the recruitment front. Tottenham's technical director and new manager go way back, even coaching together at Danish Superliga outfit Lyngby.

Spurs' data-led approach under Lange has led to the acquisition of several exciting young stars who have already had an impact in north London. However, many will argue that now's the time to complement the squad Frank's inheriting with ready-made stars. A recent report has laid out the positions Spurs are hoping to bolster this summer.

Thomas Frank has laid out 3 key positions of need in summer transfer window

The reputable Gary Jacob of The Times (via Spurs Connect on X) understands that Spurs are prioritising moves for a centre-back, defensive midfielder, and winger this summer.

That information is likely to predate Frank's arrival, but those needs were always going to be pressing ahead of 2025/26 no matter who was in charge.

A new centre-back will be necessary if Cristian Romero departs, and the timing of his farewell message to Ange Postecoglou points towards discontent. If Atletico Madrid come in with a reasonable offer, I can envisage the club moving the Argentine on.

Kevin Danso is an able deputy, Radu Dragusin should fare better under Frank, and Luka Vuskovic is a talent to be excited about, but none of us would feel comfortable if we didn't sign another centre-half this summer. Brentford's Nathan Collins and Everton's Jarrad Branthwaite have been linked.

Holding midfield is a crucial position of need, especially if Romero departs. The Argentine would leave a gaping void in the build-up phase, and his quality in possession would have to be made up by a clean, progressive passer at the base of midfield. Yves Bissouma could leave the club, while Rodrigo Bentancur is probably better suited to a number eight role.

Finally, the X-factor in attack. We could sign Mathys Tel permanently, but that isn't enough. We're supposedly interested in an array of Premier League stars, ranging from inside forwards to attacking midfielders. Eberechi Eze is the maverick we all want, but Frank may attempt to bring Bryan Mbeumo with him to north London.

The variety of attacking profiles we're reportedly after suggests a priority target hasn't yet been established.
