The interest from Tottenham Hotspur in Lecce full-back Patrick Dorgu has been well documented. They have been tracking the defender since the summer, and according to Fabrizio Romano, the Italian club rejected an advance from Spurs during the transfer window.

In the same report, he states that Lecce also rejected an advance from Chelsea, and that both clubs "keep tracking" the defender. He states that Napoli have also been monitoring him for a long time, and shows a photo of manager Antonio Conte speaking to Dorgu after the recent game between Napoli and Lecce in Serie A - where he impressed, despite a narrow win for the Naples side.

Over the 90 minutes, he recorded; five clearances, two interceptions, two tackles, 4/7 ground duels won, one blocked shot, one foul drawn, and two shots. All of that against a Napoli side that sit four points clear at the top of Serie A.

Since the summer, Dorgu's rep has increased further. He made his debut for the Denmark senior national team in September, and even marked it with a goal, despite just playing nine minutes, to help his side overcome Switzerland 2-0 in the UEFA nations league. H=is full debut came a month later, on his third cap, as Denmark drew 2-2 with the same opponent.

He scored another goal two games later, in Lecce's 2-2 draw at home to Parma. Interestingly, he actually played as a right-winger in that particular game. In his aforementioned first start for Denmark, the 20-year old played as a left wing-back. This versatility adds another string to his bow. 4

There is a slight spanner in the works, however. 11 days ago, Dorgu signed a two year contract extension, with his deal now running all the way to 2029. There have been no reports of a release clause within that contract - though also nothing to confirm that there isn't.

That said, Lecce's hand could be forced regardless. They currently sit bottom of Serie A, with just five points from their nine games so far. Should they get relegated, they will have a greater need of finances. This could also go hand in hand with a release clause - it is not uncommon for players to have a release clause inserted into their contracts in the event of a relegation.

It is pretty unanimous that left-back depth has been an issue for Spurs, with a lack of suitable competition in that area for Destiny Udogie. The potential signing of Dorgu would be huge.
