Spurs player thriving out on loan in Spain
By Tom Vinall
Spanish media outlet Estadio Deportivo have suggested that Bryan Gil is "back to his best" since joining Girona on loan from Tottenham Hotspur back in the summer.
The winger can feel a bit aggrieved that he never really got a fair crack of the whip during his time at Spurs, whether it be under Nuno Espirito Santo, Antonio Conte or Ange Postecoglu. No doubt, some will point out that if three managers don't like a player, there is a clear common denominator. Perhaps that is fair, but there were certainly worse players that got more game time than Gil during his spells at Spurs between loans.
Estadio Deportivo have now said that Gil is once again delivering the type of performances that lead to the hype around his name a few years ago. They say he is "well and truly back to his best" at Girona, and has the full trust of manager Michel. He has been an ever present for Girona in both La Liga and in the Champions League, where the club are currently playing their first ever European campaign of any sort.
They go onto say that his performances in a Girona shirt so far this season have not gone unnoticed, with the winger being rewarded for his form with a call up to the Spain national team by Luis De La Fuente, for upcoming nations league games against Denmark and Serbia.
However, sod's law has come into play and the 24-year old had to be withdrawn from the squad with injury, and will not get his chance to show the European champions what he can do. He will not get the chance to play with Pedro Porro, who received his first call up since March. An appearance in this break for Gil would have been his first cap for the national team since 2021, when Luis Enrique was in charge.
