There was La Liga action for Bryan Gil's Girona and Alejo Veliz' RCD Espanyol this weekend, where both loanees are looking to build on a productive midweek. Gil scored for Girona on his return from injury, whilst Veliz scored a hat-trick for Espanyol.

First up, on Saturday - Girona were in action at home to Leganes. Having started and played 45 minutes in midweek, Gil was also named in the starting XI here, playing as part of a front two with striker Bojan Mivoski.

It would be a crazy game that constantly swayed one way and then the other, but Girona would come out on top, coming out of the game as 4-3 winners in a dramatic affair. Gil played the whole 90 minutes - though didn't score or assist.

This result comes as a huge welcome for Girona, only their second in their previous eight league outings - having failed to replicate the highs of last season so far, with their squad being largely picked off in the summer. This result puts them right in mid table, as they sit 10th in the league with 15 points from their 12 games so far - though teams immediately below them do have a game to play.

As for Veliz and Espanyol - they took on the big task of playing away to FC Barcelona, who went into the game sitting top of the La Liga table by a clear six points. For this game, Veliz was named amongst the substitutes, despite his aforementioned hat-trick in the Copa Del Rey last time out.

It was, as most expected - a tough day. By half time, Espanyol were already three goals down, with Barcelona's attack just too rampant and intense for them to get anywhere near them whatsoever, in a huge mismatch.

Espanyol had a goal disallowed in each half, though did get one back - courtesy of rumoured Spurs target Javi Puado. Veliz remained an unused sub.

Next up for Girona is the fourth game of their Champions League campaign, as they take on Dutch side PSV on Tuesday evening. They managed to get their first win, and points of any kind, last time out - and currently occupy the final play-off spot in the competition. Kick off for that one is 17:45 GMT.

As for Espanyol, they are next in action at home to Valencia in La Liga on Saturday - whom have had to suffer horrific, fatal floods in their City this week.
