Spurs international watch: Another productive game for Tottenham man
By Tom Vinall
On Monday night, Dejan Kulusevski once again captained Sweden, as they faced Estonia on the road in their nations league group. Much like in the draw against Slovakia, Kulusevski partnered Viktor Gyokeres as a front two in the absence of Alexander Isak. Lucas Bergvall was missing for this one, having returned back to Spurs following a “minor injury”, per the Sweden national team.
It was a very productive game for Sweden and for Kulusevski, who dominated the game, and ran out 3-0 victors. They had taken a 2-0 lead by half-time after two goals in the space of eight minutes.
Then, around midway through the second half, Gyokeres scored after being found by Kulusevski, as the two continue to strike with real and dangerous chemistry in the final third.
Tottenham’s number 21 played the whole 90 minutes, and recorded; five shots, 4/8 completed dribbles, 79 touches, 47 accurate passes, four chances created, 2/2 long balls completed, one big chance created, six ground duels won, and two fouls drawn.
Whilst the opponent may not be the best quality, it is seriously impressive how quickly the 24 year old adapts to playing a deep midfield role under Ange Postecoglu at Spurs, to playing as a split striker for his national team. It is a big testament to his quality and football IQ that he can play two such different roles with seemingly such ease. Long may it continue.
This win leaves Sweden top of their group with ten points from four games, ahead of Slovakia on goal difference as the sides are level on head to head, having drawn 2-2 with each other earlier on this international break.
If Sweden even draw to Slovakia in the November break, whilst preventing a four goal swing on goal difference in their other game, they will win their group and be promoted to league C of the nations league for the next iteration of the competition.
