In recent weeks, there has been plenty of attention brought to the transfer window that Spurs had, with many criticising the lack of proven quality outside of Dominic Solanke. Whilst there is excitement for the future regarding the likes of Lucas Bergvall, Archie Gray and Wilson Odobert (very unlucky with injuries), the lack of proven quality has been the real subject of discourse.

Spurs reported to be in talks with reps of two big players

Should recent reports be correct, the club are moving to bring in that quality. As per TBR Football, Spurs have held talks with the representatives of Angel Gomes and Jonathan David, ahead of free transfers in the summer, with both players contract set to expire at the end of this season.

Each of the two players feel like they have been linked to the club for a long time, so there is perhaps real substance to the rumours. No doubt that they would both add huge quality to the first team, with Ange’s side needing as much help as they can possibly get at the moment.

In particular, Gomes would be an incredible signing. He has already shown in his chances for the England senior team just what he can do, having been consistent for Lille for quite a while now. To be able to bring in a player of real quality, whilst also being able to help the home grown quota, would be absolutely key.

The 24-year old Englishman has played as a defensive midfielder, box to box midfielder, and attacking midfielder in his career, with his best role being as that number eight. He really likes to take up half spaces on the left hand side, dribbling his way out of trouble and combining with the left-back and/or left-winger.

Having the England international as the left sided eight to go along with Dejan Kulusevski as the right sided eight would just be unbelievably good. Having the likes of Pape Sarr and James Maddison as squad depth would be a serious statement.

As for David, there is not much to be said that hasn’t been already. Just a killer striker, who has also played as a second striker and off the left hand side in his career already. Less of a clear fit than Gomes, but certainly a player that would add quality and goals to this Spurs squad.

With these rumours never really going away, this is definitely something to keep a keen eye on.
