Tottenham Hotspur have signed six players already this summer transfer window, but they have all been defenders, defensive midfielder, and one backup goalkeeper. Despite early interest in Savinho, continuing off their approach last summer, Tottenham have not struck a deal for a single forward, and the Manchester City backup is the only forward Spurs have concretely approached despite whispers about other names like Cody Gakpo and Rafael Leao.
After implying that Tottenham would still make four more signings before the summer transfer window comes to a close by saying that Spurs are 60 percent done with the window after making six signings, De Zerbi took that number down a notch and subtly walked back his comments about a "bomba".
He told reporters ahead of Tottenham's upcoming friendly fixture against London rivals Chelsea when asked about how many more transfers would be coming to Spurs this year, via Football.London's Alasdair Gold, “I think two maybe three, we have to see.”
Roberto De Zerbi still has more needs in the squad
Roberto De Zerbi is a very shrewd manager in terms of how he engages with the media, and he tries to use the fans to help him put pressure on Spurs to make signings, which is exactly the sort of thing his predecessors were not as good at. Though, in fairness to Ange Postecoglou, for example, none of them had the same contractual or even implicit power that the Italian coach does right now.
Tottenham Hotspur supporters want to see sweeping changes made to an attack wherein only Richarlison offered double digit goals in the Premier League last season and nobody came close to that mark in terms of assists. And to make that stat line look even worse, Richy is on the transfer list while the team's most intriguing creator, Xavi Simons, is still recovering from a late season ACL tear.
So at a minimum, Spurs supporters want to see a winger and a striker who can start immediately, and, ideally, they would like two quality wingers and one world class striker. By saying Tottenham are looking at two or three signings after already 100 percent securing the defense and midfield, De Zebri is implying that Tottenham are indeed planning on bringing in multiple forwards - not just one player.
Savinho would be a great start, and as the Manchester City star subtly puts the pressure on his club to make a transfer, Spurs fans are thinking of who else they can add to the attack in order for the club to get back into the top five.
