After winning their last Premier League game, Tottenham find themselves sitting pretty in fourth place of the Premier League. While the Lilywhites may have dropped off from the start of the season, Ange Postecoglou would have taken a Champions League spot heading into the campaign.

Thanks to a last minute goal from Brennan Johnson, Spurs got all three points against a tough opponent in Brighton. There were plenty of positives for the Aussie to take, but not much more than Rodrigo Bentancur getting some more minutes on the board.

Bentancur has been affected heavily by injuries over the last few seasons. While it's impressive that time and time again, he comes back ahead of schedule, the significant injury blows would have taken a hit not only mentally but physically.

Bentancur was a diamond in the rough last season for Spurs. In a topsy-turvy season, Bentancur provided a beacon of positivity thanks to his flourishing form. But now, he is struggling to replicate the same form he showed last time out.

According to a report by TBR, the journalist Alasdair Gold has revealed that the feeling behind the scenes at Tottenham is that Bentancur won't return to his best until next season. Here's what Gold said via YouTube:

"From what I understand from people within the club, as he was going through his rehabilitation and getting towards the end of it, there was this feeling last year that you weren’t going to see the best version of Rodrigo Bentancur until next season, so the 24/25 season.”

It's disappointing to see that Bentancur won't be back to full fitness until next season, but it is understandable. For now, all fans can wish for is that he gets consecutive minutes to build up his match fitness again and if he carries on playing like he did against Brighton, then Ange has no reason to drop him.
