Tottenham Hotspur kicked off their UEFA Europa League campaign with a solid 3-0 win over Qarabag, despite facing early difficulties. However, there is growing concern that Son Heung-min may have sustained an injury during the match.

The fixture, delayed by 35 minutes due to disruptions, saw Ange Postecoglou’s men go down to ten players just seven minutes in, following Radu Dragusin's red card. Despite their numerical disadvantage, Tottenham maintained control, holding the majority of possession throughout.

Though Qarabag posed a few threats, including a disallowed goal, Spurs kept a clean sheet, only their second this season, much to the fans’ delight. The match also allowed youngster Mikey Moore to make an appearance, rounding off a morale-boosting evening for the team.

As for Son Heung-min, the Spurs captain was taken off in the 70th minute with apparent muscle discomfort, sparking concerns about his fitness. It’s yet to be confirmed whether he’s injured or if his substitution was simply precautionary.

Postecoglou may have been playing it safe after securing the result, though it’s possible Son requested to come off due to discomfort. Further updates on his condition are expected soon.

Regarding the situation, Tottenham's manager has already provided an update, according to Alasdair Gold. When asked about Son's condition, Ange responded:

"He said he was a bit tight, but I haven't spoken to him or the medical staff yet."

As we mentioned earlier, it’s clear we will have to wait at least a few hours to have more certainty about the Spurs captain’s physical state, but, without a doubt, the fact that it has been confirmed he experienced discomfort is already worrying.

Generally, they would need to conduct, or may have already conducted, an initial general assessment, which could give us an idea of the severity of the issue.
