Tottenham backup tipped to start against Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday
An experienced Tottenham backup could be in line to start on Sunday against Brighton & Hove Albion due to an injury, according to an expert.
Tottenham Hotspur could be set to call upon one of their most experienced players this weekend, with Ben Davies tipped to start in Sunday’s Premier League clash against Brighton & Hove Albion.
The left-back may step into the starting lineup if Destiny Udogie is ruled out due to injury, as suggested by former Tottenham scout Bryan King.
Udogie has been dealing with a knock and will need to pass fitness tests during training before manager Ange Postecoglou can make a final decision on his availability.
While Tottenham will be hoping the young full-back recovers in time, King believes Davies is the ideal replacement should Udogie be sidelined.
Speaking to Tottenham News, King emphasised that Davies’ wealth of experience makes him the perfect candidate to fill in during such a crucial match.
He pointed out that while Spurs have other options, including Djed Spence and Micky van de Ven, Davies’ leadership and know-how make him the preferred choice.

“Udogie missing out would be a problem,” King said. “This is a starting player we are talking about, important to the team. However, he has players that he can bring in for him. Personally, I think he would start with Davies, you can’t beat experience. I think he is your best choice if Udogie doesn’t play.”
Davies, now 31 and in the final year of his contract, has found himself in more of a rotational role this season. He’s made just three starts across the Europa League and EFL Cup, but his reliability and versatility have ensured he remains a trusted figure within the squad.
With his extensive experience at the top level and over 300 appearances for Spurs, Davies has seen it all. Despite his reduced game time, he continues to be a vital part of the squad, stepping up whenever needed.
His ability to slot in seamlessly, particularly in high-pressure games like Sunday’s clash against Brighton, is a key reason Postecoglou still views him as an important squad member.
