On Saturday afternoon, young midfielder George Abbott made his first start for Notts County at home to Accrington Stanley, having joined on loan from Spurs in late August. The Magpies recorded a routine 2-0 win.

Abbott had made his debut off the bench in a 2-1 win away to Swindon Town last week, doing his bit to help see out the game before being serenaded by the traveling fans after the final whistle.

This week, Notts County manager Stuart Maynard trusted him to start the game, playing on the right of a midfield two in his 3421 set up, very close to former Tottenham Hotspur academy player Nick Tsaroulla, who was playing as the right wing-back.

It was a productive debut for the Spurs U21s captain, playing the 90 minutes on his full debut. Abbott recorded; 66 touches, 45/49 passes, 1/1 dribble attempts, 6/8 ground duels won, six recoveries, two fouls drawn, two interceptions, and three tackles in an all-action display.

Another three points for George Abbott and Notts County

The 2-0 victory, courtesy of a brace from David McGoldrick, who was the player that spurred Abbott on to go over to the away fans last week, has leapt Notts County to second place in League Two, just one point behind current leaders Doncaster Rovers.

Abbott has again been getting plenty of love from the fans and club, having been asked after the game to take a selfie with the Notts County faithful behind the goal, and getting plenty of love and positive reviews in the comments.

After five games, County are unbeaten, having now won three and drawn two of their opening five games, having a +6 goal difference to boot, in a very good start to the 24/25 season.

Next up for Abbott and his Notts County side is a trip to newly promoted Bromley next Saturday, as they look to continue their early season momentum, with kick-off being 15:00 BST and 10:00 ET.
