Tottenham midfielder secures loan move

It has been confirmed that Tottenham Hotspur U21 captain George Abbott has joined League Two side Notts County in a season-long loan move.
The East Midlands side are currently 10th in League Two, with a win and two draws to kick off the season. Their last result was a thumping 4-1 victory at home to Grimsby Town last Thursday.
They are top of the League Two possession stats, with a whopping 68% average possession so far, so Abbott is going to a team that dominate the ball and he will get plenty of touches every game there.
They have also had the biggest chances in the league, with 11, so it is clear it is not pointless possession for possessions' sake, and they look to get the ball forward and create chances as much as they can under manager Stuart Maynard.

He will, at least in part, have been recruited to fill the void by former highly rated Spurs youngster John Bostock, who departed the club to join Solihull Moors, having been a big part of their promotion from the National League back in 2023.
He will also be playing with former Spurs academy player Nick Tsaroulla, who also joined the club this summer, having played a crucial part in Crawley Town's promotion from League Two last season.
Abbott was rated enough by Ange Postecoglu to feature four times in pre-season, and the midfielder is contracted until 2027, so is clearly rated internally at Spurs. A first loan, to give him his first taste of senior men's football, at a team that clearly loves to dominate the ball, and will win more games than they lose, can surely only be a positive thing in theory. He showed that he can hold his own against a senior team in Bristol Rovers recently, which bodes well.
The recently turned 19-year-old could make his debut for Notts County this Saturday, as the Magpies travel to Swindon. Kick-off is 15:00 BST, 10:00 ET.
