Manchester United fans likely won't be pleased with the pundit's prediction for the Tottenham vs Brighton & Hove Albion match, though some might even agree...
Tottenham Hotspur are set for a tough Premier League test this weekend as they face Brighton & Hove Albion at the AmEx Stadium.
While Spurs are riding high after a dominant 3-0 win over Manchester United, Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson has suggested that the upcoming match against Brighton could prove to be an even bigger challenge for Ange Postecoglou’s side.
Merson, writing in his column for Sportskeeda, highlighted that despite Tottenham's impressive win over United, Brighton's aggressive style of play could present a more difficult test. He pointed out how the Seagulls have posed problems for top sides like Arsenal and Chelsea this season, even in defeat.
“Tottenham were outstanding against Manchester United,” Merson admitted. “But this game against Brighton is a tougher one. Brighton went after both Arsenal and Chelsea and even though they lost to Chelsea last weekend, they still played aggressive football.”

The former England international believes Brighton’s style, combined with Tottenham’s recent form, sets up a potentially tight contest. Merson predicted a 2-2 draw, arguing that while Spurs were impressive at Old Trafford, Brighton’s pressing and attacking play make them a formidable opponent.
“If Tottenham can get four points from matches against Manchester United and Brighton, that’s a decent start for them. This is a hard football match, and I’m going for a draw,” Merson added.
Tottenham’s recent run of form under Postecoglou has been remarkable, with five consecutive wins across all competitions. However, they’ll head into the Brighton clash with some selection concerns.
Star forward Heung-min Son is expected to miss the game due to a minor hamstring injury, while Richarlison and Wilson Odobert are also sidelined. Destiny Udogie remains a doubt but could feature in the match.
Despite these challenges, Spurs will look to extend their winning streak and maintain their momentum. Historically, Tottenham have had the upper hand against Brighton, winning nine of their 14 Premier League meetings.
