One Tottenham star has sent a rather clear message amid speculation over his future at the club. Despite securing Premier League safety on the final day, there is no doubting that it has been a disastrous season for Spurs.
Tottenham are too big a club with too big a budget to find themselves in the bottom half two seasons on the bounce. At this point, even with promises of changes from the club, it's still going to be difficult to convince top players to stay at the club, especially if they are presented with offers to join clubs playing in Europe next season.
Pedro Porro could be lured away
A number of players could be in that scenario, and one of them is full-back Pedro Porro. The Spaniard has been one of Tottenham's more consistent players this season, and he was rewarded with a call-up to the Spain World Cup squad.
This will be his first major tournament with Spain, and it's a huge landmark in his career. But what will he do when it comes to his club career? That was a question put to him by Mundo Deportivo. He responded: "I have a contract with Tottenham.
“I haven’t even had time to glance over. We’ve been focused until the last minute. I don’t want to hear anything; I want to switch off and enjoy myself.”
As for the Spain call-up, Porro is understandably excited to be heading off to North America to represent his nation. He has had to be patient due to Dani Carvajal and Jesus Navas' long dominance over the right-back spots, but neither will be at this World Cup.
Porro will have to battle Atletico Madrid star Marcos Llorente for the starting spot, and that might be a tricky prospect, but he is relishing the opportunity.
“It’s been very exciting,” he added. "I’m very happy; I’ve been working for a long time for something like this to happen. I had a burning desire to do this; playing in the World Cup for your country is a dream come true.
“The manager has known me since the youth teams, and I’ve always had his confidence.”
Luis de la Fuente's men will be one of the favourites at this World Cup having won Euro 2024 in pretty dominant fashion. Though, there has been significant change within the Spain squad, with leaders like Carvajal, Navas and Alvaro Morata all ageing past being selected over the course of the last two years.
