Tottenham Hotspur winger MIkey Moore is one of the big future gems of the club, and Spurs are very hopeful that he can become a top Premier League winger one day. He had a successful 2025/26 season while on loan at Rangers, one of the biggest clubs in Europe, but he wasn't facing a high level of competition in the Scottish Premiership. Still, Moore stood out in the big games, scoring in multiple Old Firm Derbies vs. Celtic, and the Rangers faithful loved him so much that they were pushing for a permanent move.
Now, Spurs were never going to sell permanently, but it is becoming clear to Roberto De Zerbi and the club that any hopes Moore had of playing in the first team in the 2026/27 Premier League season are dead. Even though Spurs have issues on the left wing and have not yet signed any new forwards this summer window, Moore has shown that he is not good enough to be in the squad yet.
If that was already the thought after watching him in the first preseason games, it was sealed on Saturday when Moore drew the start on the wing across from young Frenchman Mathys Tel. While Tel also struggled against the tough low block of La Liga's Getafe, Moore was even worse.
Mikey Moore is not ready for the big time
He was completely anonymous, and he proved that a loan to FC Koln is the best thing he can get this summer. Because Moore needs to be playing in a top five European league to test himself against real competition every week, as he does not yet have the ability to impact games consistently, and Tottenham Hotspur just saw the proof of that against Getafe.
Whereas other young players like Luca Williams-Barnett and Malachi Hardy who play positions that are usually tougher for prospects to shine in are killing it this preseason, Mikey Moore looks nowhere near ready on the wing. He definitely needs more refinement, and his game sharpness and ability to read defenses off the dribble are nowhere near adequate.
Koln plays a bit lower in the Bundesliga table, but they have an amazing fan base and a low pressure environment. And that is exactly what Moore needs after the Rangers loan move as he gets his feet wet in European football still. But clearly, Moore is not the caliber of player Tottenham need in the squad as they push for top five in the Premier League again.
