The preseason gives Tottenham Hotspur fans a chance to see the prospects at the club in closer action and measure up how they stack up both against each other and against the established veteran first team players.
Out of all the young prospects this summer, the one who is shining the most and drawing the best reviews from the Tottenham faithful is 17 year old midfielder Luca Williams-Barnett, who already looks like something special in his first real taste of the action with the first team. He is probably too young to get a big loan deal, but if he continues to impress this preseason, that could very well be in play for LWB, as well as potentially significant minutes in the League Cup and maybe even FA Cup and lower level Premier League matches this season.
Williams-Barnett as a quality of touch, a level of skill on the turn, an an aura of confidence about him that most players his age do not have, and a wide number of the more experienced players on Tottenham are lacking, too.
Mikey Moore still needs a lot of work
But watching Willams-Barnett dazzle on the ball with confidence out of nowhere this preseason has caused Tottenham Hotspur fans and maybe even Roberto De Zerbi himself to pause when it comes to the near future of Mikey Moore.
There has been some speculation that with gaping holes on the wings and with Moore shining in massive games for Rangers vs. Celtic while on loan last season that his return to the first team could be in play to boost the ailing Tottenham attack in the 2026/27 Premier League season.
But unless if Tottenham really struggle to sign new wingers in the summer transfer window like Savinho, Cody Gakpo, Rafael Leao, and Bradley Barcola, Moore looks better served spending another year on loan against better competition in a top five European league than rather in the Scottish Premier League.
Because, in truth, Mikey Moore has not really stood out in the preseason thus far. Even against weaker competition, Moore has been bang average, whereas players around his level of a prospect like Mathys Tel and Archie Gray have been tremendous.
Yet the most dramatic comparison is that to Luca Williams-Barnett, who, unlike Moore in 2024/25, does not have notable first team experience at Tottenham, nor has he had his big loan opportunity yet. Even so, LWB has been one of Spurs best midfielders this preseason, whereas Moore looks subdued and tame of the dribble. Tottenham are realizing that Moore needs a lot more seasoning still than they thought.
