Luka Vuskovic's decision on Tottenham future isn't as mysterious as you think

Tottenham Hotspur center back Luka Vuskovic finished up his first ever season as a senior player, and things could not have gone better for the young man. Now a fixtue for the Croatian national team as heads into the World Cup, Vuskovic had an extraordinary season for Hamburg in the Bundesliga, helping them stay up in the German top flight with a much better record than Spurs achieved in the Premier League, naming himself the best central defender in the league.

A phenom, Vuskovic's future seems a bit murky, given he wants to play with his brother, who was suspended last season, in Hamburg, as well as links to clubs as big as Bayern Munich and Barcelona who have taken notice of his world class talent at such a young age.

The thing is, though there are people who have a vested interest in making it seem like Vuskovic has a totally uncertain future, the equation here is really quite simple. Tottenham hold all the cards for Vuskovic, and his decision is incredibly simple because it's not entirely his decision.

Tottenham hold all the cards for Luka Vuskovic

Spurs hold all the cards here. They do not have to sell at all. They have no obligation to sell, no timeline to sell, and no reason to sell a player whose transfer value will only explode if he shines in the Premier League under a bigger spotlight at Spurs than what he got at Hamburg. Selling him now would actually be leaving money on the table, even if, say, Barcelona or Bayern were to offer, as neither of these clubs are spending big for anyone other than an established superstar.

Luka Vuskovic has no reason to pick against Tottenham Hotspur either. Playing with his brother at Hamburg is nice, but it doesn't sound like he is interesting in nothing else but that because, well, he is a reasonable person.

Meanwhile, Vuskovic has to know he needs playing time, and his best path for playing time at a top club is to return to Tottenham, because he would not start immediately for Bayern Munich. And Barcelona, despite their issues, still have more room in central defense than Tottenham.

It's quite clear that Vuskovic is going to head back to the Spurs first team, unless they screw things up royally and loan him out again, which would deprive them of a player who could potentially even be their best asset, given how good he was for Hamburg in 2025/26 (and how awful Spurs were).
