Tottenham Hotspur youngster Luka Vuskovic was the revelation of the season not just for Spurs or for the club he played at on loan, Hamburg, but in European football as a whole. Not even Pau Cubarsi, the phenom at Barcelona, has made as much of an impact as a center back as Vuskovic, who had all of the Bundesliga, including some of the most jaded commentators in the country, swooning over his maturity and athletic ability.
Vuksovic reads the game at a high level, passes as well as Cristian Romero, carries the ball, bosses aerial duels better than anyone else in the world from a statistical stand point, and, yes, even scores goals - great ones, too.
Tottenham fans are dreaming of having Vuskovic back even more than the Hamburg faithful are sad to see one of their brief heroes go, but Spurs supporters are also worried about an even bigger fish than the German port city claiming Vuskovic for their own. Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and other top clubs have been mentioned in transfer rumors with more than a cursory interest in the young Croat.
Luka Vuskovic is ready for Roberto De Zerbi
Spurs are waiting for a sign and hoping for Luka Vuskovic to fully commit to a return, and to entice him away from joining a club like German powerhouse Bayern Munich or the Catalan giants, Johan Lange has been working on a bumper deal for the teenage superstar.
In an interview with Nova TV, via The Spurs Express, Vuskovic finally dropped some clear hints that his future lies at Tottenham Hotspur in the 2026/27 season, first stating that it is impossible for him to live out his dream of playing with his brother in Hamburg. And then he sent some praise towards new Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi, stating he is excited to work with the former Brighton and Marseille manager.
Vuskovic said, “I think he’s a top-class coach. He likes attacking football, he likes build-up play, and I really like that. I hope we’ll work well together in the future.”
That sounds like great news for Tottenham fans and another feather in the cap of De Zerbi, who has not only turned Spurs around and saved them from relegation but has also gotten real gems like Micky van de Ven and Vuskovic to be more interested in staying with Spurs.
With captain Cristian Romero's future more out than in at Tottenham, Vuskovic is an expected starter next to Van de Ven, even with the addition of Marcos Senesi. The nod that he hopes to work with De Zerbi is perhaps the biggest hint yet that Vuskovic is ready for the first team in North London.
