Pedro Porro is in Spain's roster for the World Cup, but faces competition from Marcos Llorente for a starting spot at right-back. Tottenham Hotspur fans will have to wait and see whether their right-back will get the nod from Luis de la Fuente.

Is Pedro Porro expected to play for Spain tonight?

Expectations are mixed as to whether Porro will play or not. He did not start in Spain's most recent friendly against Peru. Teams often use their final warm-up friendly as a chance to field their strongest lineup.

Llorente played against Peru, with Porro replacing him in the 69th minute. De la Fuente has rotated between Porro and Llorente in recent international breaks. We will find out at 4 pm BST, ahead of the 5 pm kick-off, who will be starting against Cabo Verde. Spain's official X account, @SEFutbol, will announce the lineup.

Llorente starting against Peru is a huge indicator that he will be the first choice right-back at the World Cup this summer. At 31 years old, he is five years senior to Porro and has more appearances for Spain.

Why Pedro Porro's role matters for Tottenham supporters

Tottenham have not had the best of seasons, in which they narrowly avoided relegation. However, Porro is a very exciting player to watch, particularly as he is so attacking.

Fans often watch international soccer, praying that players from their clubs do not get injured. International breaks are often seen as boring by many. However, the World Cup is where interest often grows among supporters who value their club rather than their country.

Spurs fans will be hoping Porro impresses, but not too much that a team he has been linked with, like Real Madrid or Barcelona, will then try to buy him. Some supporters may want to see Spain get an early exit, so that Porro is well rested for the upcoming season.

How Pedo Porro has performed for Spain recently

  • Porro was on the bench against Peru, but did come on for the last 21 minutes.
  • He did start in recent friendlies against Egypt and Iraq. Played 90 minutes against the Egyptians, but was taken off in the 71st minute against Iraq.
  • The Tottenham full-back was left on the bench in a friendly this year against Serbia. The same happened to him in their final Nations League match of 2025.

Spain team news and predicted lineup

The injury concerns ahead of the tournament for Spain were for Nico Williams and Lamine Yamal. Both are now fit, but not expected to start today.

Predicted Spain lineup against Cabo Verde: Simon; Llorente, Cubarsi, Laporte, Cucurella; Fabian, Rodri, Pedri; Torres, Oyarzabal, Baena

What to watch for if Porro plays tonight

Porro is known for his attacking instincts and will want to get forward against inferior opposition. Spain will be expected to defeat Cabo Verde convincingly, and Porro will want to be amongst the goals if he is playing.
