Yet another list being climbed

So far this season, Heung-Min Son has already gone into 9th place in the list of players with most goals and assists for one Premier League club- with 186. He also registered his 250th goal and assist for the club.

These are not the only lists he has continued to climb, however. With his goal against West Ham United on Saturday afternoon, Son has entered the top 20 for all time Premier League goalscorers.

In April 2023, Son’s beautiful curling effort from outside the box against Brighton and Hove Albion made him the first ever Asian player to score 100 Premier League goals.

His strike against West Ham was his 23rd Premier League goal since then — putting him level with Dwight Yorke and Raheem Sterling in 19th place.

It has been some quick progression for Son, who was in 24th place at the start of the season. He has already overtaken Romelu Lukaku (121), and Steven Gerrard (120), since August.

The skipper is one of four active players in the 100 club, as well as Mohamed Salah (162), Jamie Vardy (139), and of course Sterling.

All being well, Son should rise to 16th before the end of the season. He is two goals behind Nicolas Anelka, three behind Robbie Keane, and four behind Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink.

His goal ratio of 0.40 is better than both Anelka and Keane, as well as the likes of Frank Lampard, Teddy Sheringham, and Jermain Defoe.

Along with Salah, Sterling, Sadio Mane, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Ryan Giggs— Son is one of only six wingers amongst the 34 players to have netted 100 or more Premier League goals — albeit a number of those have been when playing up front.

What makes this even more impressive for the 32-year old, is only three of the goals have come from penalties. Two scored, plus a rebound against Aston Villa (with a broken arm, no less). You would imagine he would be a few places higher on a list of non penalty goals.

It is hard to imagine where he will finish once his Premier League career is over. You would imagine he will play at least this season and next season — which gives him 68 games. The idea of 27 goals in that time, which would give him 150 league goals, does not feel like it is outside the realms of possibility.

Captain, leader, legend.
