On Saturday afternoon, Heung Min-Son returned to the Spurs side, having been sidelined for three weeks with a hamstring injury picked up in the Europa League opener at home to Qarabag. He marked his return to the side with a trademark finish, creating separation on the outside before firing in a low, left footed effort.

With this goal, he has now got 186 goal contributions in the Premier League with Tottenham Hotspur, ninth in the all time leaderboard for goal contribtutions for one single club, edging him two ahead of Alan Shearer in 10th, meaning that he has overtaken the legendary striker this season, having scored two goals against Everton, and providing two assists vs Brentford.

The captains record stands at 122 goals, and 64 assists, giving him one of the more balanced goal/assist ratios in the top 10. Should he avoid any further injuries this season, we could see him join the 200 club before the season is up, all being well. If he scores the same amount of Premier League goals as he scored last season, he will have at least 200.

Former long term partner Harry Kane is in third place, having scored 213 goals and provided 46 assists in 317 games for the club, with many of those being for and from Son – the two have the most joint goal participations in Premier League history, with 47 – 11 ahead of any other duo.

The 32-year old’s season is actually going somewhat under the radar, both with Spurs fans and with the wider football public. In six Premier League games so far this season, Son has three goals and two assists, whilst also creating four big chances, as well as 2.5 key passes per game.

He showed his leadership after the win at Coventry City in the Carabao Cup, ushering a reluctant Brennan Johnson towards the away end after the game. There was once upon a time where Son would have been that nervous, shy player and it is great to see that he has really taken this step up in leadership challenge well, having been named captain back in the summer of 2023.

It was also the skippers 250th goal contribution for the club in all competitions. He is within ten goals of overtaking Martin Chivers into fourth place in the clubs all time leading goalscorers competition, and will be hoping that can be achieved this season. What a player, what a captain.
