Tottenham Hotspur’s rollercoaster form has drawn plenty of attention lately, with former Spurs boss Harry Redknapp pointing out a specific problem in the squad.

According to Redknapp, one player isn’t living up to expectations under current manager Ange Postecoglou, and that’s Timo Werner.

Werner, who returned to Spurs on loan this season, was expected to bring pace and creativity to the front line. However, he’s found himself under increasing scrutiny after some lacklustre performances.

With Son Heung-min out injured, Werner’s been handed a bigger role in Tottenham’s attack, but he hasn't exactly been lighting things up on the pitch.

Redknapp didn't hold back his criticism when discussing the German forward's contribution to the team. Speaking to talkSPORT, he said:

"I’m not sure about the boy on the other side. He doesn’t excite me, I must be truthful."

While Tottenham's summer signings like Dominic Solanke and young talents such as Archie Gray and Wilson Odobert have shown promise, Werner’s performances have been underwhelming.

Despite his experience, the 28-year-old has been plagued by poor decision-making, missed opportunities, and unforced errors. Fans expected more from him, especially in key moments when his composure and finishing should have made a difference.

Even though Brennan Johnson, another recent addition to Spurs’ ranks, has faced some criticism, he’s bounced back strongly with six goals in as many matches.

Redknapp was quick to praise Johnson’s resilience and goal-scoring form, contrasting it sharply with Werner’s struggles on the opposite flank.

Redknapp also issued a caution to Spurs after their recent defeat to Brighton, where they blew a two-goal lead and ended up losing 3-2. He commented on Tottenham's openness as a team, warning that they’re vulnerable to similar collapses if they can't handle the pressure in challenging matches.

Even with the criticism, Postecoglou continues to back Werner, frequently praising his effort and commitment in training. However, while the Aussie manager holds onto his belief in the player, the pressure is increasing. Tottenham's goals for the season might be affected if Werner doesn’t get back to form and start turning his chances into goals soon.
