The Harry Kane to Tottenham Hotspur reunion hope and speculation has not ceased at all despite constant talks between Kane and Bayern Munich, and there is no question that the rightful 2026 Ballon d'Or winner is going to be staying in Bavaria for at least a couple of more seasons. Even at 33, Kane is showing no signs of slowing down and is actually playing his best football, especially in terms of his all-around quality, so Bayern are prepared to buck tradition and give him a multi-year deal.
But in addition to the understandable hopes and prayers of the Spurs faithful wanting to see their greatest ever player back at the club, there is tangible reporting to suggest that the idea of Kane making a triumphant return to help Tottenham is not just some sort of a fan fiction pipe dream cooked up by a few fans on the Internet.
According to Fabrizio Romano, via Goal.com, not only is it true that Kane wants. release clause to be inserted in his upcoming new contract with Bayern Munich, but he also wants Tottenham Hotspur specifically to have matching rights in the case of Bayern fielding a competitive transfer offer from another club. Essentially, he wants to give Tottenham the right of first refusal and would prefer going back to Spurs compared to any other club.
Harry Kane's whole goal at Bayern Munich is to win the Champions League
It is an ultimate sign of respect from Harry Kane to do this, and it also shows that him wanting a release clause is a clear wink at Tottenham Hotspur, given he would also want the Lilywhites to have the right of first refusal.
The best way for all of this to actually come together, beyond Tottenham paying at or close to whatever fee Kane is able to negotiate with Bayern as his release clause (which, despite being 33, surely won't be low given his form, quality, and importance), is for Kane to win the Champions League with Bayern Munich.
At the end of the day, the whole reason why Kane left Tottenham was to win the Champions League. He wasn't going to play against them with another Premier League team, and Bayern were the perfect team to compete for the Champions League title. So far, Bayern have come close but fallen short, but there is optimism that they are close. And they showed last year that they can push PSG as hard as anyone in European football - and you wouldn't put Real Madrid, Manchester CIty, or even Barcelona over Bayern right now.
If Kane can fulfill his big goal of winning the Champions League, which is a competition Daniel Levy had basically given up on trying for (not that he was ever really trying in the first place, not even under Mauricio Pochettino), then that scratches the big item off his bucket list and pretty much the whole reason why he went to Bayern. He could be fulfilled, and, like LeBron James after winning with the Miami Heat, return to his home club. And goodness, do Tottenham still need a great striker, and that may actually be all that they need to turn into a real Champions League team again.
