Tottenham Hotspur were seemingly going hard after Manchester City star winger Savinho, but their interest in the Brazilian international has evidently cooled with no new links or contacts reported in the media over the last several days.
Spurs have been interested in Savinho since last summer, yet they have nothing to show for it. Despite apparently being serious about bringing in the former Girona star, Tottenham have never submitted a serious offer that has led to something despite all the rumors.
But Savinho aside, there have been opportunities for Spurs to sign other high profile wingers on the transfer market. Ademola Lookman came and went, joining Atletico Madrid without so much as a whimper from the Spurs side of things.
Tottenham are being too slow again
Even now, there are multiple other wingers worth watching. One of the most notable is Maghnes Akliouche, the Monaco star who impressed against Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League. But like Crysencio Summerville, the West Ham United left winger who was also previously linked with Spurs, Akliouche is being more heavily courted by a much bigger club.
In his latest transfer update, Fabrizio Romano is reporting that PSG have Akliouche on their shortlist of players after being impressed with the Frenchman, including head to head in both Ligue 1 and even the Champions League knockouts, this season. More clubs are also interested in the young right winger, per Fab. There are Premier League sides "in contact" with Monaco regarding the player's fee, though Romano did not mention them by name.
Tottenham have to be seriously worried, because even though it is only June, they have been looking at new wingers for months, even selling Brennan Johnson last winter transfer window without signing anyone in return.
The right wing may not be as big of a need with Mohammed Kudus starring on that side, but Dejan Kulusevski's long term knee injury means that someone like Maghnes Akliouche could still be very helpful to the club. Savinho may be a more ideal candidate, but he seems to be tabbed as a traditional left footed left winger.
But regardless of who it is, PSG, the back to back Champions League winners and the best team in the world right now, showing interest in Akliouche and Crysencio Summerville is evidence of just how far behind Spurs are. They need to find a winger, in addition to Savinho, and actually make a concerted effort at a signing. Meanwhile, they are busy potentially swapping out Luka Vuskovic for Jan Paul van Hecke while losing money in the process.
