Cristian Romero is here to stay. Well, that's if you're to believe the Argentinian's latest Instagram caption, celebrating Thursday's win over Arsenal.
Romero, so pivotal to our Europa League success in May, entered the summer with his future in doubt. Many speculated that the club's decision regarding Ange Postecoglou would be key in making up the defender's mind, and the Australian manager's departure apparently meant Romero would inevitably push for an exit.
There was interest from Atletico Madrid, and the World Cup winner had spoken about his desire play in La Liga earlier this year.
There's no denying that there was once a point when Romero seemed more likely to leave than stay, but updates regarding his future have only been positive in recent weeks. Now, the man himself has committed to spending at least another year in N17.

The introverted Romero has been in a smiley mood this summer, and the 27-year-old was excellent in Hong Kong as we secured a July North London Derby victory over Arsenal. Pape Matar Sarr's strike from the halfway line separated the two teams.
Romero's robustness alongside Micky van de Ven aided Spurs' ability to shut the predictable Gunners out, although the centre-back was replaced by Kevin Danso for the final 30 minutes.
Post-match, many of the players turned to Instagram, with snaps from Thursday's pre-season win featuring. Romero, who wore the armband with Son Heung-min on the bench, was among them, and he captioned his post: "Getting ready for what's coming. All together this season."
Okay, so he hasn't explicitly said he's staying, but it doesn't take much reading between the lines here. Thomas Frank has already spoken about Romero's commitment and readiness for the new season, with transfer links reduced to nil after Atleti's interest waned.
I don't think there are any doubts that Romero will be donning Lilywhite next term, and he's surely the number one pick to succeed Son as captain if the South Korean superstar joins Los Angeles FC post-tour.
The issue for Spurs is that the 27-year-old will be entering the penultimate year of his contract, and the lack of guarantees over the future means the club must be proactive and offer the Argentine a bumper new deal before any potential suitor starts getting in his ear.
Retaining Romero for next season is a huge boost for the Thomas Frank project, but keeping him on our books for the long haul would be a statement of intent from the hierarchy. These are the sort of players you build around.
