6 surprise deals Tottenham could make in final week of transfer window

It's fair to say that very few would be content if the summer transfer window ended today.

The past few weeks, in particular, have been particularly excruciating for supporters, with Fabrizio Romano stringing us along and Arsenal hijacking deals like the art's going out of fashion. It's not been fun.

And while time is a precious currency we're quickly growing scarce of, Spurs still have the chance to salvage this window.

The dream is three additions before the deadline arrives, but the majority would be content with two. Most importantly, Thomas Frank must have a new playmaker at his disposal, and I think we've accepted that Savinho won't be heading to N17.

However, the final week of a transfer window almost always throws up surprises, and Spurs may be in the business of stunning their supporters over the next few days. Here are six shock swoops we could target.

Lucas Paqueta

There have been a few reports linking us to the West Ham star over the past 48 hours, so this one wouldn't be a total surprise if we were to pull it off.

However, having failed to deal with the Hammers for 14 years, signing two of their most prized assets in the same window would be pretty shocking. Mohammed Kudus was the first to jump ship and, all things considered, Paqueta is more than happy to do the same.

His 2024/25 campaign wasn't great, but there's a sense that the Brazilian will thrive once more in a different environment. He's started the new season with two goals in three games, striking fiercely against Chelsea last Friday before things quickly went south for the Hammers.

Spurs have a desperate need at the No. 10 position, but West Ham do have a price and if they want Paqueta off their books before the deadline, they may well sell to us again.

Ademola Lookman

I do not understand why we haven't made more of a push for the Nigerian star.

Sure, he failed to light up the Premier League during his previous stays, but three years of Gian Piero Gasperini have seen Lookman's game move through the gears. The versatile forward has been a consistent performer in Bergamo and is ready to move on.

He's currently on strike after his proposed move to Inter fell through, with Atalanta more willing to sell overseas. If we want to at least attempt to replace Son Heung-min's efficiency, Lookman is the man. He's well within budget, too.

Kobbie Mainoo

The possibility of Mainoo playing in Lilywhite seemed unfathomable when he posted a throwback picture on Instagram wearing a vintage Spurs strip from the late 90s to celebrate his 20th birthday earlier this year.

We still haven't got answers as to why the Stockport-born Mainoo was ever wearing the away kit of a middling Spurs side he wasn't even alive to see.

Mainoo seemed destined for stardom at Manchester United, but his situation has changed drastically in 2025. Ruben Amorim isn't a huge fan, and there's a willingness to part ways before the deadline. Now, Mainoo isn't an ideal fit, but he has talent in abundance.

Given the reported fee Man Utd are reportedly after, this could be a market opportunity the club would be foolish to overlook.

Xavi Simons

Simons was among the dream targets entering the summer, with it becoming clear that 2024/25 was his last season with RB Leipzig.

However, the new Bundesliga campaign is underway and the Dutchman's future still hasn't been resolved. Simons played in Leipzig's opener at Bayern Munich last Friday, losing 6-0.

The nimble playmaker has been heavily linked with several clubs this summer, but has his heart set on Chelsea. However, the Blues are struggling to strike a deal (and have been for weeks). Their emerging interest in Barcelona's Fermin Lopez suggests the Simons trail may have gone cold.

Is there an opportunity for Tottenham to pounce? La Masia graduate Simons certainly wants Premier League football.

Conor Gallagher

This would just epitomise the window, wouldn't it?

Spurs have been linked with late swoops for Gallagher in the past, and I would not be surprised if his name emerges in transfer rumour mills over the next few days.

The England international enjoyed a decent debut season with Atletico Madrid, but Diego Simeone's side have evolved further this summer, and Gallagher could be sliding down the midfield pecking order already. Crystal Palace have been linked with a reunion.

I quite like Gallagher, but he's absolutely not the midfield profile we need. This would be a panic move of the highest order.

Nathan Ake

A left-sided defender is third on the list of priorities, but we absolutely did make a play for Bayer Leverkusen's Piero Hincapie, who prefers a move to Arsenal.

Frank wants a versatile operator. He wants a reliable defender who can play in various defensive roles, whether as part of a back three or four.

I've seen reports linking various Premier League clubs to the Dutchman, and I wouldn't be completely against us making a move. I really like Ake, even if he has struggled with injuries in Manchester. He will be counted on as a depth option in N17, and our busy 2025/26 schedule means he'll enjoy his fair share of action.

He's a tad undersized but is a superb one-on-one defender in wide areas, and an impressive ball progressor. A perennial trophy-winner at City, I think we could start discussing Ake while waiting for a decision on Savinho.
