3 reasons why Marcus Rashford to Tottenham makes sense

The Spurs board have promised a change in transfer policy, and Marcus Rashford would go a long way in making a big statement as the club looks to respond to back-to-back 17th-place finishes.

Earlier this week, reports suggest that Tottenham Hotspur are preparing to move for Manchester United attacker Marcus Rashford as the club looks to improve Roberto De Zerbi's squad ahead of August's Premier League kick-off.

The Sun added fuel to that fire yesterday, suggesting that Spurs are ramping up their interest in Rashford and may be willing to pay his United salary in full, which increases to £325,000 next month.

While some may be skeptical of Rashford and his financial demands, this may just be the perfect fit for Tottenham as De Zerbi looks to make a marquee forward signing ahead of the 2026/27 campaign. Here are three reasons why.

Premier League Proven

The eternal struggle of a Tottenham Hotspur transfer window. Identifying key targets who are Premier League ready, getting priced out, and ending up with lesser-known prospects from Europe or further afield that rarely work out. Think Clinton Njie, Georges-Kévin N'Koudou, Vincent Janssen, Alejo Veliz.

While Mathys Tel has shown promising signs after a run of games since De Zerbi's arrival, if Tottenham are to be taken seriously as a top-six club again, they need someone who has been there consistently. And who better for Tel to learn from than Rashford, who has become renwowned for his ability to shine in big games, scoring 28 Premier League goals against the traditional 'Big 6' clubs.

Rashford brings with him an abundance of experience in the English top flight. Accumulating 142 direct goal involvements from 297 Premier League appearances in his nine and a half years at Old Trafford, as well as a half a season on loan at Aston Villa, not to mention his cup hero status with 27 goals across both domestic cup competitions. It's highly doubtful that there's anyone available who's as domestically proven as Rashford.

In-form and Dependable

Some might suggest that the 28-year-old is past his best. Contrary to the views of some Manchester United fans, wherever Marcus Rashford has played, he's made an impact and continues to do so.

Falling out of favour due to several reported issues, Rashford began to explore alternative options to his boyhood club in 2025. Those issues haven't seemed to follow him, however, as the attacker followed up on his successful loan at Villa Park with a La Liga-winning season with Barcelona last season, during which he registered 14 goals and 14 assists in all competitions.

Given this reputation, it's no coincidence that Rashford has been consistently on the English national team's radar, with whom he already has a goal at this summer's FIFA World Cup.

Versatile

The last two injury-ravaged seasons at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium have shown the need for the club’s attackers to be adaptable across the front line and to wear many hats. Rashford could just be the head that fits, showing versatility throughout his career.

While arguably his best position is on the left, he's proven to be equally as effective on the right, as well as performing to an elite level as a lone striker, and occasionally as a second striker. This again proves him to be not only perfect for Spurs but the perfect role model for prospects like Mathys Tel and Wilson Odobert, who have been tasked with covering several attacking positions in their time at the club so far.

Money aside, Marcus Rashford could just prove to be a vital addition for Tottenham Hotspur should both parties strike a deal. It could also prove to the fans that the hierarchy are serious about transforming the club's fortunes on the pitch after back-to-back disastrous Premier League campaigns.
