According to The Athletic, Spurs center-back Micky van de Ven will not be requiring surgery following the hamstring injury he picked up in Monday night’s clash with Chelsea.

This comes as a big relief with supporters hoping to have him back in action as soon as possible. It still isn’t clear for how long he’ll be out, and the recovery process likely won’t constitute a short time-frame. Nevertheless, this is the better of two unfortunate outcomes for the Dutchman.

For reference, the player endured a similar injury back during his 21/22 campaign with Wolfsburg, seeing him miss 76 days of action and 12 matches total. If the same were to be true now, Ange will be looking to deepen the squad with new signings in January.

A Sebastian Caceres deal is supposedly in negotiation as one option. A comparatively less expensive target than players like Lloyd Kelly and Trevoh Chalobah, it’s possible Tottenham could look to make two signings for the back-line.

Bournemouth’s left-footed Kelly could be the best option, and Spurs are expected to make a move for him now with his contract due to expire this summer and his fee likely to be lower as a result.

As for the upcoming matches in which both Cristian Romero (who picked up a three-match ban following his red card on Monday) and Micky van de Ven are expected to be out, Ange will likely be using Eric Dier alongside summer-signing Ashley Phillips.

Dier came on well against Chelsea despite conceding a few last-minute goals with a nine-man squad. Phillips is untested at the Premier League level, however, making the match against Wolves an interesting encounter.

With height and speed, Phillips fits the ideal build for a Premier League defender, especially when placed alongside Dier who is less known for his pace. A number of other youth call-ups could be made in the meantime to help strengthen the squad in the off-chance that the defensive partnership does not hold up.

Tottenham face Wolves this Saturday, where the attacking prowess of the front three could make the difference in light of the squad’s recent knocks in defensive positions.
